I thought it was a great read and does a very good job of capturing what it's like as a gay teen. I am happy though that these days there's also YA lit that doesn't focus so much on the downsides and homophobia as is the case in this novel.Natazzzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13602667069762466989noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1352172002453207458.post-1852139754849498902011-07-30T18:43:26.851+01:002011-07-30T18:43:26.851+01:00I'm so glad I find your blog! I've been looking for some LGBT books to read and this one sounds fantastic.

Great review, will definitely be adding it to my TBR list!jowearsoldcoatshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00326471036612734587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1352172002453207458.post-43303111614751643712011-07-30T16:20:08.866+01:002011-07-30T16:20:08.866+01:00I can see why you loved this book so much, it soun...I can see why you loved this book so much, it sounds so good and definitely something everyone should read! I get annoyed with people who are like the ones in this book; the "we're fine with gay people, just do it behind closed doors" kinda people really piss me off and I reckon I'd feel the same way about this book that you did! As you say at school kids experience bullying for lots of different reasons, it seems like such a positive affirming way to deal with it.

I think you should campaign to have the book translated to French. That would be an incredibly empowering thing to achieve.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14379159908572573355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1352172002453207458.post-42619723302119804722011-07-30T12:13:16.963+01:002011-07-30T12:13:16.963+01:00This is so interesting. I often see / hear people saying they prefer books where a character just 'happens' to identify as LGBT rather than book that are all *about* a character's sexuality, but I think books like this are so important - for exactly the reasons you've given. I think you make a really good point that some people don't even know *why* they need to know this stuff.

Lovely review. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
